01 / Our story

It began with
a café in Genoa.

Sometimes a single place changes the way you see hospitality. For our founder, Jamal Hendricks, it was a café in Genoa, Italy: an unforgettable cappuccino, a classic atmosphere, and a room full of effortlessly stylish people.

Uptown grew from the desire to bring that unmistakable charm to Harlem. The vision is timeless and welcoming—a coffeehouse where care shows up in the cup, the surroundings, and the way people are received.

Part of Hendricks Hospitality Group, Uptown is an expression of a simple philosophy: The Art of Belonging.

Harlem is the intended first home of Uptown: a neighborhood whose culture, creativity, and entrepreneurial energy speak to our vision.

We’re developing a concept that brings premium coffee together with neighborhood participation, local employment, and meaningful relationships.

Uptown is in development. A location, opening date, and final menu have not yet been announced.
